Local Address

Keep your address up to date

Providing an update of your new address in the United States every time you move—including your email address and telephone number (and any changes to these)—is required by United States law. Within 10 days of any change of these (even changing your address within Bloomington), you are required to update the Office of International Services (OIS), which must update your information in SEVIS.

As a J-1 student, this is a straightforward process. If you change your “Local” address, email address(es), and telephone number(s) in One.IU, OIS is notified and we will then submit the changes in SEVIS.

You do not need to update your local address if you live on campus. It will be updated automatically.

How to update or add your local address

  1. Log on to One.IU.
  2. Search for and open Personal Information
  3. In the Addresses section, click "Add Future Address" and select "Local"
  4. Enter your new local address information
  5. Click Save
  6. If there is an incorrect "Local" address listed, click the pencil icon to edit your address and then click Save

Be sure to enter a local address, because that is the address that will be sent to SEVIS. “Local” refers to the address where you live in the United States.

If you find that you are unable to update or add your “Local” address in One.IU, you may log in to Atlas and submit an e-form to update your local address. But begin with One.IU before submitting your request to Atlas.

If your DS-2019 was not issued by Indiana University, then you will need to notify your program sponsor of any address changes within 10 days of moving, each time you move.
