Insurance for Dependents

Insurance for Dependents

Spouses or children that accompany IU international students and scholars must be enrolled in the Indiana University health insurance program or have equivalent insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in the United States.  Minimum coverage must include compensation of $50,000 for each illness or accident, $10,000 for medical evacuation, and $7,500 for repatriation of remains to the home country in case of death.  Maternity benefits (including pregnancy, prenatal, and obstetric care) must be included.  Click here for details.  University services may be denied if students do not show proof that dependents are fully insured.

Students, scholars and other visitors must purchase health and accident insurance within one week after the date of arrival of the dependents.  If the student has Aetna Student Health insurance (the IU mandatory insurance policy), dependents may purchase a plan through Aetna Student Health.  Dependents may be insured by Aetna Student Health only if the student has Aetna Student Health insurance.
